Christmas is coming

It has been quite a strange year and with the lockdowns and isolation we as a family felt the need to put up our Christmas decorations although the eldest daughter keeps telling me its too early.  She has just turned 13 and seems to have lost her Christmas spirit, thankfully the younger one who is 11 is as excited as she has always been.

As an older Mum with peri-menopause symptoms, sometimes its hard to be fun and lively.  I must say losing hormones makes me feel rather grumpy and I have a can't be bothered attitude (ha a bit like a teenager) so I am thankful at this time in my life I do have a fun and energetic daughter to keep me feeling happy and to give me get up and go.

This is our tree and for the first time I let the girls decorate it themselves, I think they did a lovely job.  Don't let them know I moved a few ornaments.

As I mentioned in my last post I love entering competitions and this time of year is the best with so many advent competitions around.  I have compiled a list on my Advent Competitions page and I will add to this as I see/find new ones.

Please feel free to use this list and share with your friends.

What else do I do?

Before having children I worked as an Holistic Therapist (offering Reiki, EFT, Crystal Therapy and HOPI ear candling), with the girls getting older and their need for my time lessened 2 years ago I decided to start this business up again as I missed working with energy and helping people. This is my website Solace Healing and TherapyCovid has unfortunately put a hold on this business seeing people face to face, but I can still offer EFT through video link which has been really helpful.

I also enjoy crafting and making things but there gets to a point I can't keep everything I make.  I started my facebook page Lots of Personality so I can show and sell my handmade items whilst also selling personalised gifts which I personalise myself.  Along with this I have started making semi precious stone jewellery which I sell in my facebook group Jen's Gemstones along with other holistic items.

Please feel free to have a look at my facebook pages and my website, you may see something you like or you may want to try EFT.

When I get some spare time I like to enter competitions, I have been entering competitions for about 10 years now and I have had some amazing wins.

Wordpress lost my site

It has been 2 years since I last posted on this blog.  I did change over 2 years ago to wordpress which I had updated until a year ago.  I was hoping to start blogging again but put it aside hoping wordpress would find my site but unfortunately thats not happening.

I will start up again on this site as it has been reliable enough not to lose my site, thank goodness.
My children are now 12 and 11.  They have little interest in toys but do love boardgames and  they like playing roblox and Among us.

Merry Christmas

It has been a busy couple of years and I haven't updated my blog since 2016, in this time my daughters have been reviewing on their youtube channel, check it out here

These reviews haven't made in to the blog as I have been busy running my embroidery business and I haven't had time to write up reviews.  Unfortunately the time has come to end my embroidery business as its not proving cost effective and I am running at a loss.

The new year has lots of new beginnings for me, I will be starting a new business and the girls will be doing more reviews on their youtube channel and also written up on this blog.

I would like to wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR and please check back in the new year for more reviews.

Baby Annabel Baby Brother Review

We were lucky to receive this lovely Baby Annabel Baby Brother Doll to review.  My daughter age 7 couldn't wait to get him out of his box.

He comes with a bib, bottle, dummy and necklace.

Baby Annabel Baby Brother has lifelike functions.  He responds to touches, can cry real tears and loves his bottle.

From the moment of putting his batteries in and turning him on, he started making baby sounds, they sound so cute and are not too loud, we have had baby dolls in the past and I couldn't wait for them to be turned off.

If you gently rock him he will close his eyes and fall asleep and starts to snore.  When he wakes up you can give him his bottle filled with water,  the water goes into a tank at the back of the dolls head which is used to make him cry real tears (this version of the doll does not wet its nappy).

You can touch/caress his cheeks and he will make cute happy babbling sounds.

My daughter found that he is alot of fun with feeding and crying, although when she put him on her shoulder to pat his back and burp him she got a wet shoulder as the water came out of the eyes even when he wasn't crying.

I hope you have found this review helpful.

We received Baby Annabel Baby Brother free for reviewing.

Hello sorry I have been quiet again.

Life has its ups and downs, busy and quiet times.  Times to evaluate and ponder, times to feel unwell and times to rejoice.

For the last year and a half I have been having digestive trouble, tests, anxiety issues and CBT.  With all of this I keep on going day to day. Dropping and picking up children from school, shopping and running the business. Some days are more difficult than others and I have needed to ask for support from friends.

I wanted to let you into my life a little as I would like to start reaching out to people with similar problems.  I have discovered there are a lot of foods I can't eat due to having an allergy to Rapeseed Oil.  I also struggle with any member of the nightshade family of fruit and vegetables.

Rapeseed Oil is being added to lots of cakes, biscuits, sauces, soups, savoury snacks, crisps (cooked in) and breadcrumbs.  Its cheaper to use and can be heated to a higher temperature than other oils.  I have to check the ingredients of everything I buy now.  I have found also I can only consume Jasmine Rice and the only potatoes I can manage are desiree (other potatoes give me tummy ache and insomnia).

My anxiety is worse some days than others but that depends on what I have eaten and if my tummy is happy.

Apparently our tummy's are linked to our happiness, if your tummy is unhappy it doesn't transmit happy hormones to your brain.  If you are anxious this sends upset messages to your tummy.  Its a circle.

My plan is to try and avoid the foods that cause me trouble and take up Yoga/ Pilates and see if it makes a difference in my tummy emotions.

I would love to hear from you if you suffer from Rapeseed Oil allergy and Nightshade family trouble.  If you know anyone having any digestive trouble please pass on this information, it took me over a year to realise my allergy.  Companies don't tell you they are changing the ingredients they just do it.

Lifes ups and downs

Well you just don't know what will happen in life until it happens.

It is now July 2014, in the last 2 years I have Lost my Dad to motor neuron disease, lost both of my elderly dogs and moved house another 2 times with another move coming shortly.

My girls are now aged 6 and 5, they have coped really well with all of the changes.  My eldest has just finished Year 1 and my youngest has just finished in Reception.  My youngest was unable to start school in Scotland until August this year, moving back to England she was the correct age to start school straight away.  She has taken the transition really well and is progressing brilliantly with her phonics and is so eager to learn.  She can't wait to start in Year 1.  I want them both to enjoy their summer holidays and not think about school.

I am hoping life will provide me with alot more ups than downs.

Here's to the future and more reviews.

Pop goes Froggio Review

Another game from Hasbro - Pop Goes Froggio RRP £14.99

This game is aged 3+, my daughter absolutely loves this game.

In the box you have a lillypad flower center unit with a spinner on and pictures.  Attached to this is a foot pump.  There are lillypads with animal pictures on corresponding to the pictures on the flower unit and a light weight Froggio which sits on the top of the flower.

The aim of the game is to collect the lillypads and the person with the most wins.  The lillypads are placed animal picture side down around the room.  People take turns each to spin the spinner and whichever animal it lands on this is the animal you have to search for by turning over the lillypads.  Whoever finds the animal runs to the flower unit and stamps on the foot pump which makes Froggio jump from the flower, that person then tries to catch him.  If he is caught the lillypad is kept, if not the lillipad is placed back on the floor animal side down.  The person with the most lillypads when they are all collected is the winner.

My 3 year old daughter loves this game however she finds it a little difficult co-ordinating herself quick enough to catch Froggio.  We change to game slightly so that she stamps on the foot pump to make Froggio jump and I catch Froggio.  She gets really excited when I catch him and finds it ever so funny if I fail to catch him.

Monkey Dunk Review

I was very lucky to be chosen to review the game Monkey Dunk from Hasbro RRP £12.99

This game is from 4 years up, my 3 year old was very excited to receive this game as she had seen it on TV adverts.

In the box are 16 monkeys 4 in each colour, an elephant timer, lots of banana tokens and a lillypad.

To object of the game is to get all your monkeys into the pots by the time the elephant timer pops up, if you get the monkeys into the pots you earn banana tokens.  Person with the most tokens wins.

You have to flick the monkeys into the pots by pushing on the back of the monkey (a bit like playing tiddlywinks) before the Elephant timer pops up.  My 3 year old finds it a little difficult making the monkey jump high enough to get it over the box sides and into the pots, although given enough time she does eventually manage to get them in but cannot do it within the time is takes for the Elephant timer to pop up.

The lillypad makes the game a little harder, you place this into a pot and any monkeys landing here will not be counted as a win.

This is a really nice game to play with the family and my 2 year old tries to join in but instead of flicking the monkeys she throws them in which makes her happy.

I would say to play the game properly that from 4 years is apt,  I do think the Elephant timer would be better if it gave a little more time as I can see how this can make younger children frustrated.

Update on the Graco Nautilus 1-2-3

Update 5/7/2011
As my daughter tends to fall asleep quite alot in the Graco Nautilus 1-2-3 I have decided to move her to another car seat I was really unhappy about her head slumping forward everytime she fell asleep. I will use the Graco Nautilus 1-2-3 again when she is older.

Update on the Graco Nautilus 1-2-3

Sorry I haven't written in awhile.
We have been giving the Car Seat a chance, using it on a daily basis.
My daughter is now 2 and loves her car seat. The cup holder holds her dummy, her comfort blanket and when empty her juice bottle. She isn't really interested in the secret side compartments unless she loses something in them. I can still say that I am really impressed with how easy it is to get the covers off to wash following a few nappy accidents and putting them back on is so easy.
As they advertise this car seat from a young age I would expect the tilt to be greater than it is, to stop your childs head tipping forward when they are asleep. When my daughter falls asleep her head always slumps forward in this car seat. I wonder whether they should put the age start from 3 or 4.
